After You by Jojo Moyes

I danced a wee jig when I had the good fortune to get hold of Jojo Moyes’ After you for the long weekend, such was my excitement!

The sequel to Me before you (about the relationship between a high flying banker left a quadriplegic after an accident and the woman who cared for him in the last few months), After you picks up Louisa Clark’s story eighteen months afterwards. Stuck in a deadend job, estranged from her family and unable to move on from what happened, Lou opens the door one evening on someone that will change her life forever. And before you jump to any conclusions, it’s not what you might think. No spoiler alerts here, just read it…..

After you is a worthy sequel. By turns it is a moving account of one woman’s journey through grief, juxtaposed with hilarious interactions with Lou’s family and the gently humorous moments in her grief counselling group. Sounds bizarre, but Moyes pulls it off superbly.

If you loved Me before you, you will LOVE After you.
